Clash of the Titans - The Kraken

Clash of the Titans was my first leadership experience as I was asked to lead the texture team for all creatures and environments and be heavily involved with the art department to refine the look of the creatures. I was Lead Texture Artist on this project overseeing 10 artists on digi double, environment and creature work. For hands on involvement I did procedural and detail texture passes for the Kraken to enhance the resolution and details for close up shots. Arnaud Valette did the bulk of the texturing for the Kraken working with myself and Virginie Bourdin the Art Director to develop and refine the look of the creatures. The model was done by Sam Rowan and Laurent Herveic. The Harpies were the other main creature that needed development and I would do the hands on textures for them on top of leadership duties.

The Kraken was a challenge to texture as there was a lot of UDIMs and this was produced in the days before Mari and Substance, so it was Photoshop UV based textures and single layer projections only. Oh the pain, when compared to today's workflows!

Thanks to MPC London for giving me my first opportunity to lead a team as I would go on to be a leader throughout my career, and I learnt a huge amount during this project.
